My Top Four Fall Trends

I know we’re well into November, but better late then never, right? It’s okay, these trends will be seen through Winter and well into early days of Spring.

One) Urban Jungle - a slightly more tailored update of last year’s Safari trend, if you will, with more 80’s inspired oversized features and. Spearheaded this season by Isabel Marant’s Ready-to-Wear collection, these silhouettes quickly trickled down into the more accessible facets of fast fashion. Key notes on how to achieve: belt, belt, belt! The thicker and more accented the belt, the better, to create an hourglass look amid the heavier fabrics.

Two) 70’s Plaid - What started with a classic patterned blazer has taken over. Now, this season, we’re seeing plaid everywhere! I’m talking big block plaid pants and skirts, in all color schemes, and they’re even better when juxtaposed with a differing plaid or pattern on top. Unlike a schoolgirl or grunge plaid, this is nod to your grandpa’s long forgotten leisure suit you might have caught a glimpse of flipping through old family photo albums (cigarette and brandy in hand, most likely).

Three) The Shacket - AKA, the Shirt Jacket. We started to see these gain momentum in past season’s in menswear, but this season they have graciously crossed the aisle into womenswear and taking on a variety of forms. Tailored with a puff sleeve, car coat length with a tied waist belt, and full length overcoat (my personal favorite). What makes these arguably so popular is their versatility. Can layer over a suit for the working woman, or over your leggings and hoodie to run your daily errands, and over just about anything else, giving an edge to any look.

Four) Bold Monochrome’s - Inspired by my favorite new influencer duo, @Young_Emperors, this look is not for the faint of heart, but is easy enough for anyone to create with pieces they already have at home. I especially love pairing a more neon hued with a muted one, like a cyan blue statement blouse, with dark royal or navy slacks. Mix it up and add an animal print handbag or boot and you’re ready to turn heads.
